female update

this is a few days into my high poly i usualy don't spend this much time on the sculpt but rescently ive noticed thats where i need to spend most my time to get all the detail in the character before i move on. my models usualy end up quite bland when ive finnished so iam now teaching myself to get all the detail and proportions correct before i move on and it had been a big help, iam now enjoying making this character and im taking my time to make sure i put all the nessacary detail into the model before it ends up looking unrealistic and bland at the end. Im studying faces and taking crits on everything i can ive had loads of input into this character and it is turning out to be the best model i have done to date. there are a few propotion problems iam now correcting for instance the length of the bycept.
i have rescently startet to use a 2 books alot more than usual on this scult, the first is a book called close up by martin schoeller and the second is Anatomy for the artist. Close up has helped me focus on minor detail that has improved my faces enormously, you may not have noticed but tis face started off as my pilot character and ive edited everything to get the result you see here. bodys have never been my strong point that is one of the main reasons i wanted to do this character and now i can comfortably create a female character body quickly and easily with correct topology. iam going to quickly finnish this character for my portfolio and then work on the exact same pipeline for a male one.

female anatomy

this is an image of my first attempt of the female form in 3d, i found it weird how all i do is men even though most of my life drawing is of women. ive seen alot of things i need to work on for example the ears are to thin as they were taken through zbrush and i never worked on them so they need fixing infact all the small close together vers need readjusting like fingers. the zbrush head needs a bit of work but im restarting it attatched tot he body so i can flow the neck muscles and bones into one another.

church

well ive been away from here for quite some time, mainly ive been working on what im doing before i jump into a career in game art(if i can that is) but as ive been doing that ive been working on alot of stuff to improve myself as an artist and to improve my portfolio, i havn't put any of it up for people to veiw because as soon as ive completed a peice i moved on to the next one and most of them where quite small. This project im on is large and will take a bit of time so i thought id post it up to fill the gap of absence.
ive been working on a church which will end up as more of a cultist church rather than a christian, as i find the colours for christian churches rather tacky and dull and i made up cultist church gives me alot more scope.

Zbrush models

these are few of my Zbrush models done over the past few weeks they're not in chronological order.

Bill Sykes second body,, i wasn't happy with the first so i designed and built a second but now i don't know which i prefer.

Sykes first body, this was the first body I've done in Zbrush in a while and proportions got the better of me that's one of the reasons i created the second body and the naked man.

Bills second face, the first one wasn't to my liking as he looked a little to old for what i wanted him to be and there was allot of problems with his brow line, which i improved on and created this. I went for a larger more awkward shape as i wanted to get across a thug type image. To get this i searched around for as many mugshots as i could, to find a mean looking chubby guy, this is the result.

I created the body to help my anatomy, i researched using books the structure of the human body. It was a major help in creating all further models and as i progress i definitely will do more.

This is Oliver's second and final body, he lacked interesting features and his silhouette was boring in my last model so i designed this one. I added a coat and allot more creases, the creases were passed over to the low poly model quite well, keeping the silhouette interesting.
Oliver as a character is quite boring and simple so making him interesting without ruining the character was hard the face was the hardest part as young people lack any interesting lines and shapes, so the only place i could put anything of interest was his hat and his nose, i researched a few noses some from Oliver Twist films and some from random images and i finally settled on this one, its quite sharp but still keeps him young.

this is Oliver's first body for comparison as you can see its very boring and it got even more boring on the low poly.

the hands were used on various people, i have a few more and as i moved from hand to hand my zbrushing skills increased allot, the main thing that makes these hands interesting is the relaxed pose they are in, its perfect for a relaxed model.

Mr Bumble was a very hard character to create, i knew i wanted allot of weight to him but to get this he required many more poly's than the rest of the characters mainly in his broad round face but it was worth it as he came out quite well.

the body for my 19Th century policeman. i enjoyed doing another character for this project and I'm glad i chose someone a bit different from the rest of the other people, his clothes didn't have much on them but that didn't make it any less fun.

wip updates

Here are a few images of what ive been working on, i decided to re do sykes body because i didnt like the technical faults with it and i also wanted to do somthing new with him. I did a 9th century policeman because i had the time and i found a nice image while surfing the web. he isn't finnished yet ive just blocked out colours and done normals.

ive added a bit to the texture since the model above ill replace it soonn

truck_wip

i decided i wanted to model another vehicle for my portfolio and after doing the citreon van i wanted to do a more detailed vehicle. I wanted to make something big but with alot to look at, so i chose to create this actros long distance truck. its based off the schematics of the new actros truck by mercedes but i changed a few things to make it a little more fun.

this truck hasnt taken me very long so i didnt waste time away from my fmp.

bill sykes update

ive changed my character of bill since the last time i blogged, ive redone an entire new face as i wasn't happy with my design or my poly distribution. He is now alot fatter and more closer to the original book, i also find modeling and texturing bigger and older people alot more fun. i may do his dog bullseye as he is part of the same character but i will leave that till ive finnished the rest of my fmp as not to waste time on un important things.
